THOUGHT LEADERSHIP

Cause Effective is committed to exploring the connection of fundraising and equity through a variety of avenues. We are grateful to the institutions that have provided space for Cause Effective to present the findings from the Money, Power and Race Report and share the benefits of the Cause Effective Fellows Program:

  • Alliance for Nonprofit Management
  • ARNOVA (Association for Research on Nonprofit Organizations and Voluntary Action)
  • Asian Americans/Pacific Islanders in Philanthropy Development Professionals Roundtable
  • Planned Parenthood Federation of America Development Officers Council Conference
  • Development professionals of color and allies employed at agencies funded by the NYC Department of Youth and Community Development
  • Women of Color in Fundraising and Philanthropy (WOC)

Cause Effective was very proud to participate in a panel hosted by Nonprofit Quarterly on Diversifying Fundraising: How Your Organization & the Field Can Build a Pipeline of Diverse Fundraising Leaders.

The panel was moderated by New York Community Trust Program Director Patricia Swann and panelists included Sonya Shields and Judy Levine of Cause Effective alongside Unique Brathwaite of Community Resource Exchange.

It was a powerful and transparent conversation that illuminated career obstacles faced by fundraisers of color and how they can grow within the field and what the nonprofit sector can do to support them and help build a career pipeline of diverse leaders in the field.

The Cause Effective Fellows Program has brought together over a dozen seasoned professionals in the nonprofit and philanthropic sector to share their wisdom and experience with the members of our cohort. We were thrilled to have the dynamic Activist and Author Jodie Patterson participate in the third session of the second annual Cause Effective Fellows Program. Our Senior Associate Sonya Shields talked to Jodie about how she navigates through the challenges around money, power and race through her work in the nonprofit sector, and stays aligned with her purpose and the impact she wants to make in the world. Jodie is a passionate LGBTQ advocate, speaker and whose book - "The Bold World: A Memoir of Family and Transformation" received rave reviews. Jodie is currently working on her new book that focuses on Mothering as a construct that builds communities and is a necessity for social change. Take a listen to this transformational conversation.
